Information for students
Stamps Impact Prize applications must be developed and submitted by students in close consultation with their prospective faculty mentors. Faculty mentors are required to provide letters of support (in the portal). Student applications must include:
- Student Information. Student’s name, classification (e.g., freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior) at the time of the application, major/minor/program of study, and faculty mentor.
- Project Description. A description (max 1,000 words) of the project or experience and the activities in which the student will be engaged to carry out the project. If the project is a portion of a larger work such as a senior thesis, the description should address the role of the enhanced component in the larger project. The description should include relevance to the student’s field of study, interests, or career path.
- Impact: Personal statement (max 500 words) as to how this will influence the educational experience (e.g., how will this award advance your education, abilities, or interests?)
- Student and Faculty Mentor Roles. A description (max 250 words) of the respective roles of the student and the mentor in the project design and implementation; how does the project/activity contribute to the student’s broader academic and/or professional goals?
- Timeline and Product. A description and proposed timeline for completion of the activities and the anticipated product of the award (e.g., publishable manuscript, research presentation, senior thesis, creative piece or performance, etc.).
- Expense Budget. A short but detailed description of each anticipated project cost, and why it is needed. (Note: student stipends are not permitted if the student is enrolled in courses)
If you are selected to receive a Stamps Impact Prize, upon project/enrichment experience completion, a Final Report must be provided to the Director of the Stamps Impact Prize (SIPrize@olemiss.edu). This one page report should include:
- Brief description of project/experience
- Product(s) created (or in progress) or outcomes achieved
- Final project costs compared to proposed budget
- Major lessons learned from the experience
- How project enriched undergraduate experience
